Venison Steaks

It’s that time of year again!  Deer season.  One of the most wonderful times of year, if you ask me.  Here is a great way to prepare those tasty steaks.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tb flour
  • 2ts Mrs. Dash seasoning (optional)
  • 1ts garlic powder
  • 1 ts salt
  • 1 ts onion powder
  • 2lb venison steaks
  • 2tb butter (more may be needed)

Method:

  1. Pound your steaks to an even thickness.  Combine the dry ingredients and coat your steaks in them.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and melt your butter.
  3. Place your steaks in the skillet and cook them for about 10 minutes, turning once.  Check for doneness because you may need to cook a little longer if you have thicker steaks.

Another quick way I prepare my venison steaks is to simply pound them to an even thickness, heat a skillet over medium high heat and sprinkle in some olive oil, sprinkle garlic powder, meat tenderizer, onion powder, pepper over both sides of the steaks (don’t be shy).  Add the steaks once the skillet is hot and cook until lightly browned, flip and cook another few minutes until lightly browned on that side.  It’s a good idea to cover your steaks once you take them off the skillet and avoid cutting them right away – give them about 10 minutes to rest and soak their juices back up.
