This closely mimics the taste of a certain storebought canned tomato sauce that many people grow up eating. Sometimes I just crave a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup with macaroni. I am not pleased with the ingredients in the canned soups and this isn’t too hard to whip up on my own.
Ingredients:
- 3tb butter
- ½ small onion, diced
- 3tb flour
- 1 quart + 1 pint tomato sauce
- 1c chicken broth
- ½ small onion, diced
- ¼ ts basil
- ¼ ts thyme
- 2tb honey
Method:
- Melt the butter over medium high heat. Once melted add the onion and cook until soft.
- Whisk in the flour until a soft paste forms. Let it cook a bit until lightly toasted, then pour in your tomato sauce.
- Whisk once you add the tomato sauce to release anything that may have stuck on the bottom of the pan, then add the remaining ingredients.
- Simmer the soup for about 15-20 minutes.
